Year 2012 Resolutions.

Most people have the same New Year’s resolutions every year, but never do anything different to achieve them!!!…. Let’s try to make this year different by having a common yet more specific new year resolution!!!

Health:

  1. Drink plenty of water.
  2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.
  3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that are manufactured.
  4. Live with the 3 E’s – Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
  5. Play more games.
  6. Read more books than you did in 2011.
  7. Pray more often.
  8. Sleep for 7 hours.
  9. Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile.

Personality:

  1. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
  2. Don’t have negative thoughts on things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive thoughts.
  3. Strive to learn something new all the time.
  4. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
  5. Always remember that No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
  6. Stop considering other people’s feelings when they so obviously don’t consider yours!!!…..sorry but I just had to write this!!!
  7. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
  8. Remember….What other people think of you is none of your business.
  9. Do something you love to do, and that you do best, every single day.
  10. Listen more than you talk.
  11. Always continue to learn and grow.
  12. Take up a new hobby or activity this year.
  13. Keep in the company of positive people.
  14. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up….wear clothes that make you feel confident

Home:

  1. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful in your home.
  2. Surround your self with more beautiful things like art, music, movies, etc.
  3. Learn a new recipe at least once a week!
  4. Develop a method to track your life goals, your daily engagements, and your to do list.
  5. Make your creative environment for you and your family.

So set your goals and resolutions straight this year and try to stick to them because you know that the happiest people are those who wake up every day to clear-cut goals, wether they are short-term or long-term ones….

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

XOXO

A letter to….

More than a thousand years ago Islam brought dignety and respect to women! Respect that has never been there before!…. unfortunately that dignety and respect was forgotten!…. Until you came…. that is!

On behalf of all Omani women I thank you….. I thank you for reminding us that we are able and that we are worthy! I thank you for giving us so many chances to prove our selves ……and I thank you for giving us our pride and dignety back on a silver platter!!!

Watching the Military Parade by women only yesterday brought tears to my eyes ….We watched the joint female military music bands from the Royal Oman Police, the Royal Guard of Oman, the Royal Air Force of Oman, the Royal Court Affairs and the Royal Cavalry as they all marched in such precision….. I was so proud and happy!… I looked at my daughter and told her “you can be anything you want to be, there is no stoping you now!” and I not only meant it but felt it as well!

Your vision for the empowerment of women has been successful….today we are out there in every sector… and I think that the women’s only parade yesterday was the best representation of that development!!!…I must say that these young women at the parade have set a high standard…there is no looking back now…..We can no longer make excuses to our selves!

I thank you….we thank you … we all thank you!

R.I.P Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs 1955-2011

When a public figure dies it’s a tragedy for his or her family and friends…..and just about nobody else, but Mr. Jobs was part of our lives!……He helped change computers from a “geeky obsession” to a necessity of modern day life wether at work and at home……..he upended not just personal technology but the cellphone and music industries to name just a few!

We should all learn a thing or 2 from this man! …..back in 2005, Jobs revealed some of his thoughts on death in a commencement address at Stanford University, telling students: “Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”…. we should all do the same!!!

Rest in peace Mr. Jobs …. and thank you…. for the changes you made!

Lessons We Should Learn And Teach Our Children!

1. Act as you wish to be treated. The energy you put out will be returned to you many times over. Practice random acts of kindness and generosity often….for what goes around always comes around!

2. Travel the world as much as you can. There is nothing more educational and enriching for you and your family than seeing the world and experiencing for yourselves the wonderfully diverse cultures of the world (and realising that there is no ‘right’ way of living).

3. Enrich yourself by appreciating the arts (music, art, culture), reading constantly, and learn as much new skills as you possibly can!

4. Make your own opportunities, create your own luck, and look after your own fortunes.

5. Be impeccable with your word. Don’t lie, don’t gossip. Follow through on your commitments… Remember your word is your bond!

6. Treat life as one big adventure…Enjoy its ups and downs… always look for beauty and inspiration in unexpected places, and collect things along the way that make you smile.

7. Live slowly, appreciate the small pleasures in life: the smell of a rose, the sound of your child’s laughter, the sound of an orchestra tuning at the theatre, or even the sound of your child practicing the drums!

8. Don’t judge yourself by how others perceive you. Everyone acts out of his or her own preconceptions…..and if someone asks you for a favor, do it only if you want to and not because you have to!

9. Always do your best…. And you will never have to worry about how you could have done better.

10. Last but not least….. Always Wear Sunscreen!

The Only TV Program I Watched In Ramadan!

I rarely watch arabic TV programs …. not only because they are not entertaining like they used to be but also because they don’t provoke any thoughts!!!

Khawater however is the exception!… I wait for this program every ramadan… I really wish that they had it translated or something so that those of you who don’t speak arabic would know what I am Talking about

This year Khawater was better than any year and there were so many episodes that I really liked… I think that a lot of parents will find the following episode interesting

I would like to thank the presenter Ahmad Al-Shuqairi and the whole Khawater team for this informative and thought provoking program… Jazakom Allah Alf Khair.

Last Day Of Ramadan

Though today is Eid in other countries, it is the last day of Ramadan here in Oman and we are still fasting…. To be honest Ramadan passed too quickly for us this year especially that we just felt it 2 days ago when we got back!….

There’s a strong will in Ramadan …a sort of strength in faith and in believing that anything is possible… and that any prayer can be heard… We see Ramadan as an opportunity in getting closer to God, not only through praying and fasting but through good deeds like feeding the poor, donating money or taking part in random acts of kindness…. Ramadan to us (or should I say some of us) is not just a detox for our bodies but it is a spiritual detox as well…. It grounds us and reminds us to be kind to one another and honest with each other.

Goodbye my favorite month of the year you will surely be missed.

A Coffee Reading !

I am dedicating this post to someone ( you know who you are ) who is in Turkey on a 2 days business trip !!!

I see good fortune coming your way … I see a beautiful woman with long hair, and three adorable children in your life ! …. hmmm I see that they are missing you so much and can’t wait to see you! …..I can see big kisses and even bigger hugs waiting to greet you …. Some little things are being made for you by little hands …. I see big smiles on your faces ….

Do you see these little lines joining together and becoming one? …..It means that they are your destiny as you are theirs ! ….. Let me tell you my son …. you are one lucky guy to have such love in your life ! ….. I hope that all goes well for you and that you will always enjoy your lives together…..

Well ……. that will be 20 Turkish liras. Please come again and don’t forget to bring your lovely wife with you the next time you come !

A Letter Of Complaint

Dear weather

I know that complaining about you is getting kind of old, and I am sure that you have received a lot of hate mails regarding your performance this year. We have tried to enjoy you as much as possible believe me we did. But you are just too HOT … So I am pleading with you to stop showing off! We know it, we feel it, and we definitely get it!

Perhaps you think that you are building our character when you turn your self so high that you make us feel like we have stepped into an oven the minute we step outside? Or perhaps you are testing our loyalty to you when you get so hot that we can actually cook outside ( look at the picture below that I received from a friend )? … Sure I admit that we made a few jokes here and there but nothing personal ! Really we meant no harm !

Can I make a deal with you? If you cool down a bit I promise you that we will stop complaining, I promise you that the jokes will stop immediately and that the funny pictures that are going around the internet will stop as well. I promise you that if you cool down a bit we will enjoy, love and appreciate you once more.

I look forward to your response. Since I didn’t get one last year I kindly ask you to look into this matter as soon as possible.

Sincerely yours
