Make Up Expiry

It is time for me to throw away some of my make up!…. I do this regularly with out fail.
You see different types of makeup can safely be used for different lengths of time….Here’s the list that I go by for my make up and beauty products. It shows you how long they can be used after being opened:
  • Concealer Up to 12 months.
  • Powder 2 years.
  • Pencil eye liner Pencils should be sharpened regularly and could last up to 2 years. Liquids however only last unto 3 months.
  • Eyeshadow Powders will also last up to 2 years. But creams last unto 6 months.
  • Brushes Wash every 2-3 weeks with a mild detergent.
  • Sponges Wash weekly and discard monthly.
  • Foundation: Depends on the ingredients: A water-based foundation will last from 6 to 12 months. An oil-based one will last up to 18 months. And a powder one can last up to 2 years …However I must say that i throw mine after 3 to 4 months max!
  • Lip liner Up to 3 years.
  • Lipstick  1-2 years depending on the ingredients.
  • Mascara This product expires the fastest: Throw out after 3 months.
  • Nail Polish Up to 1-2 years, depending on the quality.
  • Hair care products 1 year
  • Sunscreen 6 months
  • Cream & gel cleansers 1 year.
  • Skin care products 6 months to 1 year
  • Fragrance 2 years

You can either write down on a peace of paper which products expire when or you could do what I do! I stick a small round sticker under each product and just write the expiry date on it !!!

No More Diet Coke For Me!

I consider my self a healthy person… I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I eat healthy, I take my vitamins but there is one thing that I just cannot give up!!!!  I am a Diet Coke addict … have been all of my life!!! … I know alllll the harmful effects etc and that never bothered me … Well till now at least …. My kids are growing up and watch every move I make and copy me in everything I do … I don’t want them to copy me in this unhealthy habit…. so I have decided to stop it for good before it is too late ( before they start this nasty habit )…. for their sake and mine ….

I am having my last Diet Coke while writing this post…I’m having small sips …. and sadly am enjoying every bit of it !…( pathetic I know )
Good bye my dear friend …We have been through a lot … you were always with me…. and  I know that I will miss you a lot !…. but fear not my old friend for I will not abandon you !!!
Here are new ways for me to use you

  • Phosphoric acid ( which is one of your ingredients ) is used in construction work to remove mineral deposits and hard water stains…. so I will use you to do the same at home!
  • You have the power to strip polished wood surfaces.
  • The citric acid in you removes stains from toilets, so I will just pour you in and and wait for you to get the job done!
  • You can clean the corrosion from our car battery…
  • You can remove grease from clothes so I will simply pour you over the grease before putting the clothes in the washing machine!
  • Last but not least you can neutralizes the sting of a jelly fish…. so I will take you with us on our boat trips how great is that?

FDA’s New Sunscreen Rules

The new Rules will have stricter labeling regulations to protect against cancer causing UVA light. And it will take effect by summer 2012 ( so a year from now )

New sunscreen labels will be able to show us for the first time how well these products claim to work against cancer causing (UVA) light . They will provide us with something called a broad spectrum protection that will let us know how well a product will protect us against both UVA and UVB lights.

So what do we do until this change goes into effect?

Well my friends I did a bit of homework so you won’t have to!

  • 1st of all we should look for labels between SPF 15 and SPF 50. They have to mention both UVA and UVB protection and have to contain Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide which  are both known to reliably protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
  • We cannot START applying sunscreen while we are ALREADY sitting in the sun. We have to apply sunscreen 30 minutes BEFORE leaving the house, and then re-apply sunscreen every 40 to 80 mins. This is important . One application a day is not enough.
  • We should assume that there is no such thing as waterproof sunscreen. There has been no known evidence that they are actually waterproof !. And besides it usually rubs off as soon as we dry our selves with a towel !. So just to stay safe we should reapply sunscreen ( waterproof or not ) as soon as we are out of the water!
  • We have to apply enough sunscreen on ourselves. The face requires about a teaspoon for the best coverage, while  arms and legs require about a tablespoon.
  • We must consider wearing breathable clothes when we are exposed to the sun. Most of us have grown up with the notion that when it’s hot and sunny the less we wear the cooler we ll get. Unfortunately my friends that isn’t true. Mainly because if we shade our skin, we’ll actually stay cooler. Brands like Coolibar, and Solartex have a wide range of clothes and accessories that are especially made  for sun protection.
  • Last but not least we should try to avoid the sun between 12 noon and 3 pm, when it is the strongest.
