70s Style Icon: Ali Macgraw

You probably know her as Jenny from the movie The Love Story for which she won the Golden Globe for best actress and was nominated for the Academy awards for Best actress.

The movie also made Ali Macgraw become an instant style star, celebrated for her natural look, preppy outfits and the woollen hats that became her signature. The character is still referenced by designers today, epitomising a key look of the period.

It wasn’t just that movie or even luck that made Ali a style icon…. she actually began her career as a stylist and assistant editor at Harper’s Bazaar….. She caught the eye of the legendary Diana Vreeland, and became her assistant at Vogue. Diana and Ali worked on defining American style in the mid 1960s.
