The Vienna Philharmonic At The Royal Opera House Muscat

The Vienna Philharmonic which is one of the finest orchestras in the world was led by the acclaimed Russian Maestro Valery Gergiev tonight and was also joined by the very young and very talented  Tchaikovsky competition-winner Daniil Trifonov (on the piano)… What a performance!!!…I didn’t want it to end… The Vienna Philharmonic is on a different League!!!… No other Orchestra is like it!!!… We enjoyed every minute of it and hope that they will be back soon!

Here is one of their performances … it’s obviously not in Muscat and doesn’t have the same conductor!!! …..But I couldn’t resist choosing it simply because my husband and son are big Star War fans!!….This is for my boys xxx

Golden Globes 2012

I love the Award season…. I love everything about it, the fashion, & the glamour but I especially love seeing my favorite movies, TV series, actors, directors, writers etc win the awards that they deserve!!!

I was so happy that the following shows and people got those awards (those are not all the awards… they are just the ones that  I was “voting” for!!!) :

Best Miniseries: “Downton Abbey”- The best miniseries that I have seen in a long time.

Cecil B. Demille Award: Morgan Freeman – There is only 1 Morgan Freeman!

And now lets talk fashion!… There were so many beautiful gowns in the red carpet as usual but I felt that only 2 were sort of worth mentioning simply because they were so different, yet chic and modern at the same time!!!

I think that Tilda Swinton has never looked better in this lavender tuxedo gown by Heider Ackermann… Love it!

Emma Stone’s Lanvin gown had a romantic feel, but she gave it a tough twist with a large eagle clasp leather belt and Cartier clutch…. She looked so modern and chic.

When Contemporary East Met Midcentury Modern

Lisa Ling, (best known for her stint on “The View” and currently host of “Our America With Lisa Ling” on OWN) is married to a radiation oncologist Paul Song, the couple are settled in Santa Monica. Their house is just stunning…… Marco DiMaccio of Punchouse Ecodesign Group designed it and met all their requirements ……  I love that DiMaccio kept their ethnicity in mind throughout the design process. Song is originally Korean and Ling is originally Chinese and you can see touches of both cultures throughout their house.

“Although I grew up in a very traditional-looking house, a family friend introduced me to architecture when I was about 12 years old,” Ling says, adding that he took her on home tours and to lectures at USC, so she learned about Neutra, Eames, Soriano and other icons of Midcentury Modern design. The result is a gorgeous house that combines Mid-century aesthetics with traditional and contemporary Asian art.

Ling and Song personalized the interiors further by framing their traditional Korean wedding outfits in the dining room.

A series of arresting portrait photos by contemporary Chinese artist Huang Yan stare out from an adjacent wall.

What also makes their house so perfect is that it is an energy-neutral house!…. And has earned the platinum LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. How much electricity the system can generate will vary with the weather, but Song says he expects to get $50 to $150 a month for the electricity they sell back to Southern California Edison! Isn’t that just brilliant?!

It’s Friday The 13th!!!

Does anyone know why Friday the 13th is considered a “bad day”?

Well several theories have been proposed about the origin of Friday the 13th superstition:

  • One theory states that it is a mix between two older superstitions: that 13 is an unlucky number and that Friday is an unlucky day!
  • There is also a superstition, thought by some that is derived from the Last Supper: That having thirteen people seated at a table will result in the death of one of the diners!!!
  • Friday has been considered an unlucky day since the 14th century’s and many professionals have regarded Friday as an unlucky day to undertake journeys or begin new projects or jobs.
  •  Black Friday has been associated with stock market crashes and other disasters since the 1800s.
